Poole town centre Tesco store to close

The Tesco store in the Dolphin Shopping Centre, Poole is to close after many years in the town centre.

While Poole is fortunate in having other excellent food shops in the town centre, it is regrettable that this valuable facility will no longer be available.

The Borough of Poole is confident that there will be significant demand for the space vacated by Tesco.

The popularity of the town centre was emphasised in the recent MORI survey of local residents, which showed that over 80 per cent of those surveyed rated the centre highly.

The Council resisted Tesco’s out-of-town developments because we were concerned about retaining retail shopping and the viability of the town centre.

We are working on a Town Centre Initiative with investors and retailers in order to develop proposals to further enhance the area.
