Poole's Cabinet 'Ministers' Face Taxing Questions

Councillor Leverett and Councillor Wretham talk to residents at the Dolphin Shopping Centre on Saturday 22 NovemberThe Borough of Poole’s ’Meet Your Cabinet Minister’ event at the Dolphin Shopping Centre last weekend has been heralded a great success.

On Saturday 22 November, Poole residents had the opportunity to grill the Councillors responsible for decision making at Poole Council with the questions important to them. The Cabinet ‘Ministers’ were kept busy throughout the day engaging with residents; answering their questions on a wide range of issues and listening to their views.

Cllr Brian Leverett, said; "Understandably most residents were concerned about the level of council tax rise and we were able to explain how we manage the difficult budget-setting process, particularly difficult this year in light of our poor funding announcement from the Government last week. A multitude of other issues were discussed ranging from affordable housing and planning to transportation and the provision of social services and education.

We were able to deal with problems in an informal way and it helped us as a Council to be more accessible to residents. It is important that we are kept up-to-date and well informed about the concerns and aspirations of Poole residents and this proved an excellent opportunity. We will definitely be looking to repeat this, or similar events, as part of our commitment to listening to the people of Poole."
