750 Competition Winners

During the summer the Museum has run a competition for visitors to the 750 Facts and Figures Exhibition. Visitors were asked to identify 10 false facts about the town that were included in the Exhibition. The exhibition has been visisted by around 11,000 people and many people attempted the competition. About 250 entry forms were taken and just over 10% were handed in. The winners of the competition to find the 10 Fales Facts were as follows:

The 10 False Facts were 1) Poole has the largest population of parots per Square Mile in Europe, 2) The waters in Poole Harbour were believed to have healing properties by the Romans, 3)Gold has been found in Poole Harbour, the largest hoard in 1948, 4) During the 16th Century moustaches and beards were banned in Poole, 5) A colony of wallabies is to be established in the year 2000, 6) Poole Quay was a location for filminig parts of the film Titanic, 7) Frog racing was a popular sport in the 18th Century, 8) Cinnamon Lane was named on account of the vast amount of spices consumed by the people of Poole, 9) The name Poole originates because early settlers settled around the lake in Poole Park, 10) Poole used to hold the record for Britain's largest Mayor, an Edward Gumption.
