19 Nov 98New Bus Service Just The Ticket
Residents of Ashington are set to benefit from a new bus service into Poole. The new route, numbered 128 and called the 'Ashington Shopper', has been set up by the Borough of Poole with a special grant for the provision of rural bus services.People living close to Gravel Hill will also be able to travel on the service as will residents in the Steepleton Road and Whitchurch Avenue area of Broadstone.
The service will be operated by Wilts & Dorset on behalf of the Council and will run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It will depart the Ashington area just after 9.00am and return from Poole Bus Station at midday.
Chairman of the Borough of Poole's Traffic Sub-Committee, Councillor Mark Howlett, said: "The Council is delighted to be able to organise a new service for residents currently without a bus route. The Ashington Shopper will provide a much needed service to people without their own transport as well as those who have cars but would like to use them less".
The service will start on Monday 30 November 1998. Copies of the timetable leaflet and route map are available from the Wilts & Dorset Travel Office at Poole Bus Station (telephone: 673555) or from Highways & Transportation Services at the Borough of Poole (telephone: 262012).
