Walking Tour To Plan Poole’s Future

Poole residents are being asked to describe what Poole could be like in the future for a video tour and new map being produced on behalf of the Borough of Poole.

Residents are invited to join a walking party around Poole with the artist compiling the video, Victoria Melody, to discuss the possible changes to the landscape and to residents’ lives.

The walk will be taking place on Wednesday 4 April at 2pm from the Study Gallery of Modern Art link will open in new window, North Road, Poole. Victoria Melody will also be attending Penn Hill Market to talk to residents on Sunday 1 April from 10 am till 12 noon. The discussions that come from these events may be filmed and included in the video tour.

The final video will take the viewer on a journey through Poole using videotaped interviews from members of the public on the streets, public transport, in supermarkets, parks and on the sea front.

Victoria Melody will also find inspiration from postcards that were distributed as part of Poole Partnership link will open in new window road-shows that took place throughout March. The road-shows were designed to help people think about their visions of Poole in the future and attendees were asked to fill in postcards with suggestions.

Nickola Moore, Arts Development Manager, Culture and Community Learning, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Victoria Melody on this project. The video will be created from interpretations of residents’ comments and predictions and will have a real local feel. The walk is a great way to get people really looking at Poole and thinking about how the town could change in the years to come.”

The video and new map will be shown at the Study Gallery of Modern Art, North Road Poole, from 2 May 2007.
