30 Nov 98Planning Fine
On 4 November 1998 the owner of Tinkers Revel a locally listed building at 8 Crichel Mount Road was convicted in Wareham Magistrates Court for failure to comply with an Enforcement Notice issued by the Borough of Poole.
The owner of the house had put in four new windows without planning permission and had unsuccessfully tried to persuade a Government appointed Planning Inspector to allow him to keep the windows after they were refused permission by the Council.
The owner pleaded guilty to failing to comply with an Enforcement Notice and was fined £5,000 and ordered to pay the Council's costs of £350. He has also given an undertaking to remove the windows and comply with the Notice.
Councillor Jeff Allen, Chairman of the Development Control Sub-Committee, said "This is the highest fine that has been imposed during my time as a Borough Councillor. This case has taken more than two years to resolve and demonstrates how determined the Local Authority has to be if it is to see enforcement through to a conclusion. I am always disappointed when a case has to come to Court as we do try and negotiate solutions and work with house owners and developers to achieve consensus wherever possible. This does demonstrate though that we will not be deflected from pursuing a case when we have been supported by independent assessors who have agreed entirely with the approach that we have taken to protect our important local buildings and conservation areas".
