2 Dec 98'Any Questions?' At Full Council
PEOPLE of Poole have a new opportunity to become involved in the local democratic process from December when a new ‘any questions’ style scheme will begin. From now on, members of the public can ask Councillors questions at meetings of Full Council.
Anyone who has a question, whether it be about a decision that the Council has taken, the role of the Council, or another local issue, is asked to submit their question in writing before the meeting takes place. At each Full Council meeting, 10 minutes will be devoted to public question time and members of the public will be invited to come along and talk directly to Members of the Council. These meetings are also open to the public to attend to watch and listen to the proceedings.
‘The decision to accept questions direct from the public is backed up by the Council’s recent MORI Survey, which indicated that people would like more information about what the Council does and the services that it provides. This is a new opportunity for us to improve our communication and accountability to the public.’ said Cllr Brian Clements, Leader of the Council.
The next Full Council will take place on 17th December 1998 at 7pm and questions (of approximately 100 words), should be submitted in writing to Bob Harris, Head of Democratic Services, Borough of Poole, Civic Centre, Poole by the 8th December 1998. The next Full Council after this is 18th February at 7pm for which the deadline is 9th February 1998.
If anyone would like further details or a chat about the new Scheme, they can telephone Bob Harris or Pauline Gill on 01202 633021 or 633043. Further details are also available in an explanatory leaflet which is available from the Civic Centre, from your local Councillor, or can be posted direct by contacting the Council on the above numbers.
