10 Dec 98Poole's Latest Safer Routes to School Project
Councillors and Officers from the Borough of Poole will join teachers and pupils from Broadstone Middle School to try out some of their routes to school next week.
Broadstone ward Councillors and representatives from Highways and Transportation Services are checking that the routes are safe for pupils.
The aim of the walk is to look at potential danger spots along the routes that children use which can be improved by engineering or other measures.
Once these measures are introduced, it will encourage more parents to allow their children to walk or cycle to school and make less use of the car on school journeys.
Cllr Annette Brooke, Chairman of the Education Committee and ward member for Broadstone said: "We understand the road safety concerns of many parents and hope that by doing everything possible to reduce the dangers on school routes, they will be encouraged to allow their children to walk or cycle to School."
Cllr Mark Howlett, Chairman of the Traffic Sub Committee said: "By establishing safe routes to schools, parents will be given another transportation option for their children which will help reduce the congestion and traffic pollution outside our schools".
