Canford Heath Skateboard Park

A brand new skateboard park is being officially opened by the Mayor Cllr Graham Curtis on Friday, 8 January 1999.

The park, the first in the borough has been made possible by the Borough of Poole and scheme sponsors Transco. The partnership follows recent works to lay additional pipeline in the Canford Heath area, needed to secure increasing demands for gas supply.

Last September, young people from Canford Heath met with officers from the Borough of Poole to discuss the types of ramps they would like. The Council has subsequently worked closely with Transco and the manufacturer of the equipment and the park was completed just before Christmas.

As well as the main "half pipe", popular with skateboarders, in line skaters and BMX riders, a small street course has been provided with launch ramps and slide rail.

Cllr Curtis said: "Young people on Canford Heath have campaigned for this type of facility for some time and it is very satisfying that the Borough of Poole, working with Transco sponsorship, have been able to provide the park so quickly."

Transco Asset Manager, John Murphy said: "Transco is committed to providing support for local community initiatives. I am sure the young people of Canford heath will enjoy and benefit from the new skateboard park.
