Voluntary Organisation Grants

Members of the Borough of Poole's Social Services Committee will receive recommendations to allow on-going grants for voluntary bodies to be increased by 3% at their meeting on 21 January 1999.

The recommendation comes at a time when Authorities are facing budget cuts and freezes in spending in some cases.

However, a report to the Social Services Committee is stressing that restrictions on any voluntary bodies supported by Social Services could lead to vulnerable people not receiving services which they have relied upon for some time.

Fred Davies, Policy Director said: "The Social Services Committee currently allocates £175,000 in grants to 20 local organisations across the Borough. An additional 3% increase allowing for inflation will prevent any reductions in current services".

Cllr Charles Meachin, Vice-Chairman of the Social Services Committee said: "These services are a vital lifeline to many people in Poole. One of the Council's main priorities is to promote a caring community and Voluntary Organisations are an essential part of that community".
