19 Jan 99Vulnerable Children In Our Community
An Action Plan to help improve opportunities in life for some of the most vulnerable children in Poole will be discussed at the Social Services Committee on 21 January 1999. Once approved, Poole's plan will be presented to the Department of Health, in a bid for £140,000 funding to support the plan.The Plan is Poole Council's response to a 3 year national programme of development in local services for children who are in care; who are at risk of abuse and who are in need. Borough plans for the bid include:
· Specialist foster carers for young people with complex needs
· Enhancing the support, educational and employment opportunities for young people leaving public care
· Ensuring the views of young people receiving services are heard and acted upon
· Ensuring the information is available to be able to plan and evaluate our services.
Cllr Jane James, Chairman of Social Services said;
'National research has consistently shown that vulnerable young people often under-achieve in education and can become isolated as young adults as they do not always have the support and help of their natural family. In our role as guardian, we want to ensure that they gain every chance to improve their lives with the appropriate support they need.'
