Merley 1st School is celebrating the results of its recent Ofsted report which praises the school for fulfilling its aims "outstandingly". Inspectors were impressed by the children's exemplary attitudes to learning" and the high quality of teaching, particularly in English, Science and Inforamtion Technology.Paul Martin, Chairman of Governors said, I am delighted that the school has received such a positive and rewarding report. All the staff have put a lot of hard work into several Government initiatives such as Literacy Hour and we look forward to the similar Numeracy Initiative later this year".
The school's curriculum was also praised for its rich, diverse and highly relevant content which encouraged pupils to have positive attitudes to work and to respect the dignity of others. Recent building alterations by the Borough of Poole have improved the working environment for staff and pupils and further improvements are planned.
Staff and Governors are addressing the few areas of minor weakness in administration processes which require improvement, to ensure all aspects of the school match the high standards of teaching and effectiveness found in the inespection report.
Headteacher, Lionel Ogden said: "I am very proid of the hard work of all the staff and governors which resulted in such a positive report. The Inspection was very thorough and have given us experience which we will use to make our school even better".
