Heartbeat Awards 1999

The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Graham Curtis will be presenting Hearbeat Awards to 25 local catering establishments on Tuesday 16 February 1999. The event organised by the Borough of Poole's Consumer Protection Services, is part of a national scheme supported by the Health Education Authority and Charterd Institute of Environmental Health.

To receive the award, establishments have to meet strict criteria involving hygiene standards including staff certification, non smoking areas for cutomers and healthy food choices including the use of healthly ingredients in recipes. Premises holding the award display a distinvtive red and blue logo which is renewable annually.

The Borough of Poole has been involved in the Heartbeat Scheme since 1992 and has seen the number of recipients steadily increase. This year's winners range from Nursery, Middle and Upper Schools in both the public and private sector, public workplace restaurants, residentail care establishments and hospitals.

Cllr Graham Curtis, also Chairman of the Public Protection Committee said; "These awards show the local community working with the Council to make sure people in Poole benefit from the high hygiene standards. Everyone taking part has worked very hard to meet the strict criteria in order to gain this well respected award".
