Poole Praised for School Places

The Borough of Poole has been identified as one of a number of local authorities that has continued to reduce the number of surplus places in its schools in the annual survey of surplus places carried out by the Department for Education and Employment.

Head of Education Policy and Planning, Vic Sandel said "We are trying to ensure good quality education in Poole in the most cost effective way. Empty school places represent a poor use of resources".

Councillor Mrs Annette Brooke, Chair of the Education Committee said, "I am pleased to see the reduction in the number of surplus places over the last year. We are trying to maximise parental preference whilst continuing to raise standards in our schools. School buildings represent a considerable investment and we must ensure that they are used as effectively as possible whilst meeting the needs of our community".
