Water Supplies At Grenville Court, Drake Court, Rodney Court and Nelson Court

New valves were fitted at Grenville Court and Drake Court last night to connect the flats direct to the mains water supply. The special valves which are in very short supply in the UK were brought down to Poole from Kent. The valve supplied to Drake Court was smaller than the one at Grenville Court and some residents found that the water flow was too little.

More valves were received this morning and work to boost the water supply at Drake Court was completed at lunchtime today. Water samples from the new water supply have been sent to the laboratory for both these blocks of flats. Once this has been cleared, water supplies to the flats will be fully reconnected.

Valves for Rodney Court are being fitted this afternoon and work on Nelson Court will begin tomorrow morning. Officers from the Borough of Poole and Wessex water expect the work to be finished on Thursday. Once the new valves have been fitted water samples from these two blocks of flats will be sent to the laboratory for testing.

Results from original samples taken from water tanks at Nelson Court were received this morning and showed signs of contamination.

It is hoped that the results of the water tests from the new water supply will be available for all four blocks of flats by Friday evening. Residents will be contacted as soon as the results are received. In the meantime, residents have been asked to continue using alternative water supplies until further notice.

The Community Centre will remain open until 10.00 p.m. tonight and will continue to provide support to residents on Thursday and Friday but will close earlier than usual, at 7.00 p.m. If the water tests are clear and the water can be reconnected, the Control Centre at the Community Centre will finish at 7.00 p.m. on Friday, 26 February 1999. Following this, the normal out of hours emergency service will be available from Poole Bridge on tel: 0800 506050 unless there are any other significant problems.

WATER SUPPLIES AT GRENVILLE COURT, DRAKE COURT, RODNEY COURT AND NELSON COURT : CONTINUED

Once Council Officers have moved out of the Centre, residents will be able to contact Housing Services in the usual way on telephone No: (01202) 633800.

Once the new water supplies have been given clearance and reconnected to the flats, further work to increase water storage capacity at all the flats will be undertaken in the next few weeks. Residents will be contacted in advance, as the work may involve disconnecting the supply for a couple of hours.

The Leader of the Council, Brian Clements said: "We have contacted the Regional Health Authority to ask for guidance on obtaining an independent review of all aspects of the incident. We will be following their advice and I would like to assure residents and all those affected by this incident that we will begin this process as soon as possible."
