New Opportunities for Teachers of the Future

Schools in Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset are delighted at the prospect of providing training for graduates who want to be teachers.

12 secondary schools, supported by Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset LEAs have combined to submit a successful application to the Teacher Training Agency (TTA) to be a School Centred Initial Teacher Training Centre (SCITT) for these aspiring teachers.

The locally based SCITT has now been given the go-ahead and from September 2005, will welcome 30 post-graduates to train as teachers of Design & Technology, English, Maths, Science, ICT and Modern Foreign Languages.

Trainees will spend most of their year in two placement schools across the three authorities with the remainder of the time in a central teacher training resource base. Expert school staff will provide training ‘on the job’.

Over 200 would-be teachers have already expressed an interest. Others who would be interested in a career in education are invited to contact Lesley Cerfontyne, Training School Administrator, Twynham School, Christchurch, Dorset BH23 1JF for further details.
