Students at St Edward's School, Oakdale are celebrating National School Meals Week in 1940's style. The event is part of a countrywide campaign to raise awareness of the availability and importance of providing healthy balanced diets for young people in school.Catering staff at the school will be dressing in 1940's Land Army uniforms and serving a range of menus to recreate the food of the 1940's. Dishes will include "Sailor's Corned Beef Pie" and "Brown Betty" Welcome Home Cake. As part of the day pupils at the school will experience the sights and sounds of the period including 1940's decoration, display and music.
Ian Purdie, General Manager, Catering Contractor PACE Services, said: National School Meals Week highlights the great variety of nutritious food available in Dorset Schools throughout the year. This is a great opportunity for our staff to get involved with the children and provide something a little bit special. We hope the day will give them more than just a flavour of the 1940's".
Alan Murphy, Headteacher, St Edward's School said: "Initiatives such as these are a wonderful opportunity to engage the interest of our students, particularly when they link with themes in the National Curriculum. I am sure staff at St Edward's will use the day's experiences to support related topics when they are covered in class".
