People in Poole are being encouraged to "have a go" on the Internet by the Borough of Poole's Adult Education Service as part of the BBC WebWise Campaign. The BBC and European Social Fund are working in partnership with organisations across the country to provide people without Internet experience a chance to experiment on the World Wide Web. The Borough of Poole's Adult Education Service is the only centre in Poole offering local people WebWise taster sessions.
Elaine Findlay, Head of Adult Education said: "By joining this campaign we are looking to give people the confidence to use the Internet by providing them with hands-on experience. The sessions have been designed to give users the basic skills and knowledge which we hope will inspire them to get the most out of this wonderful resource".
Free taster sessions are available from 26 April - 4 June at the Oakdale Centre, Wimborne Road, Poole, for people who have never used the Internet and are interested in learning how to get started. Users will need basic computer skills such as using a mouse. Sessions will last approximately one hour and will give people an understanding of how to use the most popular areas of the Internet such as the World Wide Web and e-mail.
On completion of the taster session, users will receive a BBC WebWise Certificate of Achievement as well as advice and guidance on what to do next such as visiting the Borough of Poole's Website at www.poole.gov.uk.
