Second Phase Of Garden Waste Recycling Scheme

Green waste bin.The Borough of Poole is introducing a second phase of the garden waste recycling scheme to an additional 10,000 households in April as part of a recycling drive in the borough.

The expanded scheme will include the delivery of green bins to selected properties in Bearwood,  Alderney, Wallisdown, Parkstone, Oakdale and Hamworthy. The service will operate over the summer months between April and October.

For those receiving the garden waste collection, a 240 litre green bin will be used in a fortnightly collection of green bins. Those who are already home composting and have no need for a kerbside garden waste scheme can opt out.

Participating households will receive an information pack through their door detailing what can and cannot be collected together with a collection calendar.

The delivery of the green bins will begin on Monday 5th March and the first collection of garden waste will be on Monday 2nd April.

Those areas not receiving the garden waste scheme can continue to use  the garden waste collection points running in two locations within the borough. These sites are in addition to the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre. Residents will be able to visit designated sites at the weekend to dispose of their garden waste. Further information on the dates and times of these sites will be published in the press and on boroughofpoole.com/recycling in March.

Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “We are delighted to be able to extend  the garden waste recycling scheme. The first phase has been extremely successful and we now have a 35% recycling rate in Poole. The Borough of Poole are keen to work closely with residents to make sure that they are fully briefed on how to use the bins- the information packs delivered to all new participating households should provide all the information they need.”

Properties that already have a green bin will receive a new collection calendar before the scheme commences on 2nd April.
