26 Oct 04Poole Council Launches Safe Driving Campaign
A chilling message which aims to make drivers think about the consequences of their driving is being launched in Poole. Viacom Outdoor have come up with a striking bus back advertising campaign which depicts a child's eyes drawing the public's attention to the stark words, 'She'll never wake. You'll never sleep', and, 'Your driving can really mess things up'. Cllr Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: "I am delighted that the Borough of Poole is continuing to do its part in raising the awareness of safe driving. Poole endeavours to keep its roads as safe as possible and I hope that this campaign will be effective in reducing the amount of accidents on the roads in future." This road safety campaign which is being organised by the Borough of Poole’s Transportation Services runs throughout November and is timed to coincide with National Road Safety Week. Hosted by the charity Brake, it begins on the 8 November and pre-empts the Government’s Christmas Drink Drive campaign. Lesley Hart, Road Safety Education Officer, Transportation Services, Borough of Poole, said: "We need to raise awareness about driving safely, particularly at this time of the year. As the winter sets in and conditions worsen, road users need to be even more aware of the dangers. As the message on the bus back portrays, the victim may not get a second chance and neither will the driver."
