Poole A Domestic Energy Efficiency Savings Leader

New figures from Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) have confirmed that not only is the Borough of Poole leading the way on domestic energy efficiency improvements in the South West, it is actually third in the country.

Trevor George, Private Sector Housing Manager, Housing & Community Services, Borough of Poole, said: "Poole's ten year Home Energy Conservation Strategy published in 1996 stated that 30% overall energy efficiency improvements would be its objective. It was a tall order but we have managed to reach this objective a year early.

"This is great news which shows that residents within the borough have played a major  part in this by realising that installing insulation measures in their homes is just good common sense - it helps them reduce their fuel bills and reduces carbon emissions."

Cllr Mike White, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Housing, Borough of Poole, said: "It's fantastic news that not only have we met our ten year home energy efficiency savings target on the existing housing stock in the borough, but we have exceeded it a year early. We are really proud of the private sector innovative schemes and working partnerships that have delivered good positive results over the years and long may this continue."

He added: "The new Eco village at Seldown further illustrates our continual commitment to reducing carbon emissions and helping people achieve affordable warmth."
