3 Mar 04Plant a Tree in 2003 and still more in 2004
On Thursday 4 March, opposite Jackson's Car Dealers on Holes Bay Road, The Mayor of Poole, Councillor Ray Smith and pupils from Lilliput First School will be rolling up their sleeves once again to add to the success of the Mayor’s Plant a Tree Scheme. The scheme aims to improve the local landscape, encourage wildlife and create a healthy and pleasant environment for Poole residents and visitors. Joining the Mayor for the ceremony will be members from local businesses who have donated a further 11 trees to be planted along Holes Bay Road. Mayor of Poole, Councillor Ray Smith, said: "My intention, with the help of Leisure Services, is to create a tree lined avenue that will enhance the visual entrance into Poole, especially now with the progression of the regeneration on Quay Road. It is also a great way to remember a loved one or commemorate an occasion. As we add more trees and shrubs to the area, we are not only improving the surroundings but also helping the environment by moderating the climate, improving the air quality, conserving water and harbouring wildlife. We are delighted that 11 more local businesses and individuals have sponsored the planting of a tree at this location, adding to the 4 already planted, and we hope to encourage many more at our second site at Whitecliff." Notes: As from March 2004, sponsorship of each tree will be £650 and will include a plaque and inscription.
