Full Steam Ahead for New Play Area

Funding for an exciting new play area in Poole Park has been approved by the Borough of Poole.

The open space between Gus Gorillas and the railway station will be transformed with new pathways, seating, play tables, stepping stones and traditional play equipment to create an area which can be enjoyed by everyone. Fencing will be used to ensure a safe environment by preventing the local birdlife from fouling the area.

Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: "The finishing touches are still being put to the final design but the concept is to create a family-friendly recreational area, which will also revitalise an area of the park that is currently underused. I am sure that young families and visitors to Poole will get an immense amount of enjoyment from this facility."

£70,000 has been allocated from developers' contributions further supplemented by the Friends of Poole Park's successful bid for £25,000 from the Living Spaces fund. This fund from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, provides support to help people make the most of open spaces in their neighbourhood.

Doug Chick, Chairman of the Friends of Poole Park, said: "We are delighted to have played a part in helping to achieve a long standing aim of creating a second play area in Poole Park. We hope that this is just the beginning of a new era for Poole Park."
