14 Aug 06Poole Entries Sought For 2007 Civic Trust Awards
Outstanding new buildings, restoration projects, public art works, landscape and rural design schemes in Poole are being invited to take part in the 2007 Civic Trust Awards
.
The annual scheme is run by the Civic Trust
, a charity which campaigns for a better built environment, in partnership with local Councils and is widely recognised as the largest and most comprehensive of its kind in Europe. The Awards are run on a two-year cycle, one year entries are invited from the UK’s major cities, the next year from the countryside, country towns and smaller cities.
Previous commendation winners from Poole include The Lighthouse and a house on Evening Hill designed by architect Richard Horden who designed the Study Gallery at Poole College.
Entries are initially assessed on a local level by a panel of experts which will include a leading architect, a local authority planning expert, an access advisor and a local community representative. The shortlisted entries will then be submitted to the National Panel who will make the final decisions.
Award winners will have to demonstrate outstanding examples of architecture and environmental design. Consideration is also given to the benefit each project brings to its local area and community. To be eligible, projects must have been completed between 1 January 2004 and 30 September 2006.
Councillor Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation said: “This is really a prestigious award which recognises excellence in innovation and renovation. We have had award success from Poole in the past and with the continuing pioneering development we are currently witnessing in the area we are hoping to repeat that success again.”
Nisha Kaduskar, Awards Manager for The Civic Trust
said: “Entries can be anything and come from anywhere from the Shetlands to the Channel Islands, from Norwich to Ballymena. We are looking forward to an exciting year with another bumper crop of rural entries.“
The deadline for entries is Wednesday 13 September 2006 and for the first time nomination forms are available online at www.civictrust.org.
