1 Jun 99POOLE CHILDREN HEAD FOR MILLENNIUM YOUTH GAMES
300 young people from Poole and Purbeck have been selected to represent their town in the regional Millennium Youth Games in Bournemouth on 27 June 1999. The Millennium Youth Games is a competition for young people who wish to represent their community in one of eight sports; Athletics, Basketball, Football, Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Swimming and Tennis.The youngsters taking part have been drawn from local clubs, schools and local authority coaching programmes. None of the youngsters competing are involved in County teams so allowing others to play representative sport. Swimming and Football also include events for disabled athletes.
The Poole/Purbeck local team will be competing against other local authority teams from Dorset and Wiltshire in the Regional Games based at the Littledown Centre in Bournemouth. They will compete again in another Regional Event in Swindon in 2000 with the winners representing the two counties in a National Games.
