Local business man, Johnnie Longden will be presented with the "John Jay Shield" for his contribution to crime busting in Poole on Friday 11 June.The annual award by the Borough of Poole's Community Safety Working Party, recognises the efforts of a group or individual in the fight to reduce and prevent crime in Poole.
Mr Longden, a founder member of the Dawkins Road Industrial Estate Association, invested over £12,000 in a sophisticated CCTV system which has led to a significant reduction in crime and benefited the whole estate.
Mr Longden said: "Since the cameras have been installed, many people have told me they now feel safer on the estate. By working with the Police and Council, notifying them of any suspicious people or vehicles, we hope to make sure that crime continues to reduce in this area".
Mayor of Poole, Cllr Bill Wretham said; "This CCTV initiative has ensured the safety and security of premises and the people who work or live near the estate. Mr Longden is an ideal example of how a member of the local community can make lasting changes for the benefit of others. His achievements have helped to reduce crime, tackle anti-social behaviour and improve community safety in Poole".
