SAFER ACCESS FOR BEACH VISITORS

Visitors to Sandbanks will have safer and easier access to the beach thanks to a new pedestrian area at the end of Shore Road.

As one of the most prominent approaches to Sandbanks, the busy area next to Jazzy's café, Sands Brassiere and Shore Road public toilets has been pedestrianised to give visitors safer access to the beach and the remaining parking spaces allocated for disabled users.

The 12 spaces available at the end of Shore Road have now been reserved for Orange Badge Holders, are free of charge and include four extra wide spaces for wheelchair users.

Alan Twaits, Head of Transportation Services said: "After talking with users we found that although convenient, the two disabled parking bays previously available at Shore Road were very difficult to use. We hope that with these improvements even more orange badge holders will now be able to enjoy all that Sandbanks has to offer".

Paul Geddie, a regular beach user from Moordown said: "The area is so beautiful and you can enjoy even more of the view now the new pedestrian area is here. Because there is less traffic around, you feel much safer which is especially important to parents who come to enjoy the beach with their children".

In addition to increased parking, a 3 hour limit has been introduced on Shore Road disabled parking spaces to increase availability for users. Two extra Disabled spaces have also been provided at the Branksome Chine car park.
