CROWDS FLOCK TO POOLE QUAY

Poole lived up to its reputation as the St Tropez of the South coast as thousands of people joined in the fun on Thursday 8 July for the second Liverpool Victoria Summer Festival Evening of 1999. With Mediterranean temperatures soaring, local people and visitors experienced an evening of delights on Poole Quay before a spectacular firework finale.

The continental atmosphere continued with colourful street entertainers, stilt walker Barney Bey and popular Clown Juggins, performing for delighted crowds against a backdrop of live music ranging from jazz to light pop.

Event organiser Anne Simpson, Borough of Poole said: "The fireworks looked absolutely amazing against the view of Poole Harbour and were a real hit with the crowds. The entertainment on the Quay varies every week, so everyone can look forward to something a little bit different on each of the Liverpool Victoria Summer Festival Evenings."

The entertainment begins at 6.00 pm and continues every Thursday evening throughout July and August, ending with a fireworks display at approximately 9.50pm.

This week’s line up sees the return of Gugge 2000, the brass band whose unique and light hearted style enchanted everyone, along with Colin Meddick’s Gentleman of Jazz performing on the music stage.

The 2CR Hot 30 show will broadcast live from Poole Quay with presenter Martin Lee from 7-10 pm. 2CR FM ‘s Martin Lee will also be contributing to the entertainment on the Pure Energy Variety Stage.

At the Liverpool Victoria stand there is a chance to win a car in the Liverpool Victoria free prize draw which runs throughout the summer and mascots Hen and Chick will be encouraging everyone to join in. Festival favourites including children’s fair rides, hoopla, archery and charity stalls will also be available on the Quay.
