NEW PARK OPENS IN POOLE

A brand new park will be officially opened today by the Mayor Cllr Bill Wretham.

Residents and pupils from local schools worked with the Borough of Poole on the new park’s design and layout. The scheme was funded through contributions from Raglan, Knightstone and Swaythling Housing Associations under the Borough of Poole’s recreational facilities contribution scheme which ensures new housing developments provide open space areas for residents.

In February, pupils from St Aldhelms, Heatherlands First and Courthill First Schools were asked to enter a competition to design a sign for the park. The winning design by winner Emma Doré, age 7 from St Aldhelms School will be unveiled for the first time at the official opening.

Clive Smith, Parks and Open Spaces Manager, Borough of Poole said: "With over 100 entries the competition was really hard to judge, but I know we have come up with a real winner which complements the high quality design of the park."

Future plans for the park include the development of a child’s play area for 5-9 year olds which it is hoped will be in place by autumn this year.

Mayor Cllr Bill Wretham said: "The whole community should be really proud of all their work and hopefully will now take the time to enjoy it. I’m looking forward to seeing the new play facilities which I’m sure will be a big hit and help everyone make the most of their park."
