4 Apr 07Public Consultation On Historic Broadstone
Residents are being invited to have their say on how Broadstone’s historic buildings and public spaces should be looked after and improved.
Borough of Poole has produced a draft report on Broadstone Conservation Area
Character Appraisals and wants members of the public to offer their opinions.
The Council is holding a public meeting to discuss the findings of the report at Broadstone Methodist Church on the Broadway, Sharland Room on April 19, at 7.30pm.
The report covers two areas in central Broadstone designated as Conservation Areas in October 2004. The areas are centred on and adjacent to St.John’s the Baptist Church on Tudor and Dunyeats Road and on Broadstone Park on the Ridgeway.
The Broadstone Conservation Area Appraisals are the first to be completed within the current programme which aims to complete appraisals on each of the Borough’s 21 Conservation Areas within the next five years.
The document provides a brief history of the centre of Broadstone, along with an assessment of the character of the buildings, open spaces, public areas and the landscape around them.
The appraisal aims to define the architectural and historical qualities of what was the community core of the Victorian railway suburb, and provide practical options for maintaining the buildings and landscaping which contribute positively to the architectural and historic character of the area.
The draft Conservation Area Character Appraisal Management Plan can be viewed at Borough of Poole’s Planning Reception, at the Civic Centre or Broadstone Library. Alternatively, the document can be viewed at www.boroughofpoole.com/opinions
