8 Oct 99BUS SERVICE FOR TALBOT VILLAGE ESTATE
As from Monday 4th October, a much requested bus service will operate through the Talbot Village estate, Poole. The service, operated by Yellow Buses on behalf of the Borough of Poole, will link Talbot Village with Boscombe, Poole town centre and Poole General Hospital. An hourly service will operate in both directions.
Yellow Buses Traffic Manager, Marc Reddy, said : "I'm pleased that Yellow Buses and the Borough of Poole have been able to get together to provide this new service. Talbot Village estate is one of the few areas in the Borough without a bus service and I am confident it will prove to be popular."
The requests for the new service, including one from Talbot Village Residents Association, were considered by Poole Public Transport Consultative Group. A recommendation was made to the Borough of Poole to introduce the service for an experimental period of up to 6 months. The future of the service will depend on how successful the service is during the initial trial period.
Chairman of the Borough of Poole's Planning and Transportation Committee, Councillor Bob Williams, said: " By providing funding for experimental bus services the Council is able to test new ideas for services that the bus companies are unable to operate on a commercial basis. There are currently no services operating via the Fern Barrow estate road so the route will benefit anyone needing to travel to work, to shops and to the hospital as well as local trips to the village surgery."
Details of journey times are available from Yellow Buses by telephoning 01202 636060 or from the Borough of Poole on 01202 262012.
