POOLE POTTERY DEVELOPMENT

The recent planning application submitted by the Charter Partnership on behalf of Poole Pottery will soon be the subject of further consultation.

Plans for the £20million development scheme will be on display at Poole Pottery and are available to view at the Civic Centre. Information on the development will be circulated to residents in the neighbourhood in addition to the statutory planning notices on site. The Council will also be consulting with English Heritage, Environment Agency, Wessex Water and Government Office (SW).

All comments and feedback will be reported to the Planning Committee for their consideration. Due to the scale of the development and the anticipated public interest, it is likely that a special Committee meeting will be held when the consultation is complete and a thorough assessment of the scheme and its consequences has been done.

The application is a major project in a sensitive and highly visible part of the town and it will need careful and thorough assessment by Council officers and Councillors alike. Although within the Quay Conservation Area, the design is a modern interpretation for an area that has evolved over time from being a working, industrial quay to a more leisure based environment.

Liberal Democrat Leader, Cllr Brian Clements said;
'This is a large challenge for the Council and the town and it is important that we gain feedback on the plans from the local community. The Pottery is an integral part of Poole and we welcome the undertaking that the manufacturing activities will be retained in the town. The Quay's unique character is valued by many thousands of residents and visitors and we will work very hard to ensure that any scheme adds to the town's appeal.'

Editors Notes

The £20million development scheme planned for Poole Pottery's existing site on Poole Quay includes a shopping village, luxury flats, a Pottery retail unit, restaurants and cafes. The current factory would be demolished and moved to another site in Poole.

A display on the development will be at the Poole Pottery Museum (access via Factory Tours entrance) from Monday 11 October onwards, open 10am-4pm. Plans for the development are also available to view at the Council's Planning Office, Civic Centre (8.30am-5.15pm Monday - Thursday and 8.30am-4.45pm Friday).
