PARENTS IN POOLE ASKED FOR THEIR VIEWS

Parents in Poole are being asked for their views on education provision throughout the Borough.

In a series of informal meetings, local parents are being invited to meet Councillors and Officers to discuss a range of issues and help shape the future of education in Poole.

Cllr Annette Brooke, Chairman of the Education Committee, said: "This is a chance for parents to talk about issues which are important to them and to help us prioritise for the future. We will continue lobbying the Government to provide the funding that our schools need and deserve. I hope that as many parents as possible will come along to these meetings to find out what has already been achieved and to make their views known".

Following a short presentation, parents will be asked to discuss key education issues:

· School provision

· Educational standards

· Parental involvement in schools

· Services for individual pupils and their parents, including: home tuition, admissions and numeracy, literacy and behaviour support

· Youth

· Adult Education

After the discussion parents will be invited to take part in a question and answer session.

Shirley Goodwin, Policy Director, said: "In Poole, there is already a great deal of consultation with parents through the Parents' Forum and parent representatives who are part of Poole's Education Committee. These meetings will mean even more parents have the opportunity to ask questions and hear about the work being done to ensure children in Poole receive the best possible education".

Each meeting is open to all parents in the area. For more information contact Education Policy and Planning, Civic Centre, Borough of Poole, BH15 2RU on tel: (01202) 633573.
