POOLE TOURISM PANEL LAUNCHED

Key players in Poole's tourism industry and members of Poole Economic Development and Tourism Sub-Committee met on 14th October at the Salterns Hotel for the inaugural meeting of the Poole Tourism Panel.

With an independent Chairman, Bruce Grant-Braham, who lectures at Bournemouth University in tourism and is a past Poole Councillor and two Vice-Chairs, Sandra Moore and Beverley Helliwell-Smith, Director of Salterns Hotel, the panel aims to be the 'voice of tourism' in the town.

Nine representatives from the private sector have been selected to represent sectors of the industry, including Star and Diamond rated accommodation, self-catering, Poole town centre attractions/transport, restaurants, youth tourism and out of Poole Partners. Four nominations from the Council's Economic Development and Tourism Sub-Committee with officers from Poole Tourism make up the Panel.

The role of the Panel is to support the fundamental values of the tourism strategy and to support the Poole Tourism Partnership. The Panel will also act as the prime consultation/discussion forum for the Council on tourism issues.

The Panel will meet quarterly and will bring forward proposals, comments and views to the Economic Development and Tourism sub committee for consideration.

Chairman Bruce Grant-Braham said "These are exciting times for Poole, with so much investment proposed in new developments. This Panel aims to encourage the principles of wise growth in consultation with all Poole's tourism partners".
