SCAPLEN'S COURT MILLENNIUM GHOSTS EVENT

Staff from Poole Museums, Poole Schools Advice & Support Service together with members of the local community, held a fund raising Millennium Ghost Party at Scaplen's Court Museum in support of the annual BBC Children in Need Appeal in November 1999.

The event took place in the old medieval town house named Scaplen's Court in the Lower High Street, Poole. Scaplen's Court has many tales to tell about the past 1000 years of Poole's history and the party took the form of a series of short plays acted out around the building.

Around 200 adults and children attended the event and were taken back in time to meet a variety of historical characters that included a local smuggler, Roundheads, a herbalist, medieval crafts people and a strict Victorian School Mistress. These and other characters begged for money to help the poor and needy children of their and our time, whilst at the same time explaining their role in the history of the Poole.

"Those who attended enjoyed learning and finding out about our local history and at the same time helping today's Children in Need" said Jane Skellet, Advisory Teacher at the Museum. "The event was fun to organise, everyone played their part and we raised over £215 for a good cause".
