John Jay Shield Winner Announced

A winner has been chosen for the John Jay Shield, an award scheme organised by the Poole Safe Together Partnership to celebrate Poole’s unsung heroes who work actively in the community dealing with issues that have an impact on community safety or crime prevention.

Andy Pedrick won the award for his role in the building of a skate park and BMX track at Fleetsbridge, with a view to preventing anti-social behaviour at Creekmoor Ponds. Identifying suitable land and providing funding took an enormous amount of time and throughout it all Andy persevered with the project, raising funds and keeping the momentum of the group going. Andy is the chair of the Creekmoor Community Association and a member of the Creekmoor Youth Club Management Board.

Cllr Ann Stribley, Chair of Poole Safe Together Partnership, who presented the award said, "Andy has worked tirelessly in this project to the benefit of Creekmoor’s residents. He has displayed commitment to and enthusiasm for the skate park from start to finish. On behalf of Poole Safe Together Partnership I would like to extend my gratitude to all this years nominees for the shield, for all their hard work and dedication.”

Runners up for the Shield this year were:
· Lorraine Gooding for her work as a voluntary counsellor at Poole Domestic Violence Project
· Gladys Phillips for her voluntary work at Streetwise link will open in new window
· Victim Support volunteers for their work with victims and witnesses of crime

The award was presented to Andy Pedrick on 12th October 2006, as part of a celebration of community safety in Poole.
