Exciting plans are being made to improve the range of courses for Sixth Formers in Poole. At a special meeting this week, headteachers of schools and principals of the colleges will consider new research into Post-16 courses.Over the last few weeks, the Borough's Post-16 co-ordinator, David Beardsley, has been visiting educational institutions in Poole and also around the country. He has discussed with senior managers the new Post-16 curriculum from September 2000 and asked the views of schools and colleges.
The meeting this week will enable plans to be made for new links between schools and colleges. It may be possible for students to undertake one specialist course in a different school or college to their own for part of the week. A range of information sessions for students will also be on offer at a central Borough location.
Jeff Hart, Head of School Advice and Support Service, said, "I am delighted with the research that David Beardsley has undertaken. It promises exciting new routes forward for students who may be able to follow a far wider range of courses than in the past. This innovative Borough scheme will also encourage more students to stay in education after GCSEs."
He added, "All local education authorities are being asked by the Government to promote collaboration across institutions. This scheme will enable this to happen and is only possible because of the very good relationships between schools, colleges and the LEA. We are grateful to the local Lifelong Learning Partnership which has funded work to date on this scheme."
