27 Nov 06You Can Influence The Future Of Sterte
Residents of Sterte, Poole and the surrounding areas are invited to an exhibition and consultation on Wednesday 29 November 2006 to highlight the significant development proposals for the area, and to encourage residents to influence the future of Sterte.
The exhibition and consultation, which will be held at TS Drax, the Sea Cadets Hall in Sterte Avenue West from 2-8pm, will highlight proposals which include:
· Poole Gateway - potential redevelopment of the goods yard site, with 265 new homes, hotel and retail units
· Potential redevelopment of some of the Council owned housing land at Sterte Close
· A new bridge across the railway providing a pedestrian and cycle link from Sterte to the town centre
· Provision of a local community park at the Esplanade
The potential benefits will result in the creation of affordable homes for sale and rent to local people, enhancement of existing Council owned homes and their environment, and better recreation facilities.
Mike Childs, Strategy Officer, Leisure Services, Borough of Poole, said: “The proposed development will change the local skyline, provide more homes and improve the environment. All these changes will have positive impact on the quality of life for residents, making it a better place to live.”
Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, including Leisure, said: “The exhibition and consultation are a chance for residents to participate in the development of the area. We welcome residents’ opinions and encourage them to take an active interest in the proposals.”
Officers from the Borough of Poole’s Leisure Services, Poole Housing Partnership
(PHP) and Knightstone Housing Association
will be at the exhibition to answer any questions.
As well as the exhibition and consultation there are further workshops planned for 21 February 2007 and 21 March 2007, both at TS Drax. There will also be a ‘work in progress’ exhibition on the 18 April 2007 and a final exhibition of proposals in June 2007.
