22 Oct 04Poole Celebrates Duke of Edinburgh Success
Young people from Poole Grammar, Parkstone Grammar, Canford, Uplands and Corfe Hills schools, together with the Creekmoor Open Award Centre were recently celebrating bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards success. A presentation was held at the Hamworthy Club, Canford Magna on the evening of the 14 October in the presence of the Mayor of Poole, Cllr Les Burden and the Sheriff of Poole, Cllr Lou Knight.
Peter Read, Head of Youth Services, Borough of Poole, said: "I am delighted to say I have seen the number of Duke of Edinburgh Awards treble in Poole during the last five years. This is ultimately due to the dedication and support of very many volunteer leaders who assist young people across the four sections of the Award with their skills, physical training, service and expeditions."
Cllr Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Learning, Borough of Poole, said: "I congratulate all these young people on their achievements. The Duke of Edinburgh Awards are an excellent scheme and I’m delighted that so many young people in Poole are getting involved and would like to see more schools offering this scheme to their students."
