Climate Change In Poole

The potential effects of climate change on people in Poole were discussed by leading local figures and national experts at a seminar held at the Civic Centre.

Over 70 people from the Borough of Poole and local organisations such as housing associations, schools and Dorset Business took part in the seminar, which received cross party support.

Expert speakers from the Carbon Trust link will open in new window, Envirowise link will open in new window, the Poole & Bournemouth Primary Care Trust link will open in new window and Woking Borough Council link will open in new window explained what the effects of climate change could be and what can be done about it.

Andrew Flockhart, Strategic Director, Borough of Poole, said: "Everyone who came to the seminar now understands a lot more about the how climate change will affect ordinary people and businesses in Poole. It was the first seminar of its kind and we have received excellent feedback from delegates "

Ray Morgan, Chief Executive of Woking, a leading authority on action that can make a difference to climate change, said: "It is fantastic to see the Borough of Poole and many other important local organisations taking this issue seriously. No one organisation can solve the problem but by working together you can make a real difference."

Cllr Don Collier, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, who opened the seminar, said: "Many people are daunted by the potential problems caused by climate change. This must not stop us taking action now.  I am committed to developing an action plan that makes a difference."
