18 Feb 00LOTTERY FUNDING FOR AFTER SCHOOL AND HOLIDAY CHILDCARE
Poole’s Early Years Development Childcare & Partnership has been awarded £56,295 lottery funding by the New Opportunities Fund. The funding will provide 176 new out of school & holiday scheme places for children and young people in Poole.
"The Blue Dragon Club" will be based at Old Town First School. The newly formed Management Committee of the proposed new club have received almost £40,000 to provide new places for a breakfast club, after school club, Saturday club and holiday play scheme. A total of 72 new places for children aged 4 -10 years will be created.
Mrs Taylor, Headteacher, Old Town First School said: "We are very excited about the opportunities this will offer. The scheme is the first in Poole to offer Saturday childcare as well as before school, after school and holiday care. It will give parents the chance to return to work or take up training while their children are well cared for. Parents and young children attending this school will of course, be given priority but enrolment at our Blue Dragon Club is open to all".
Two other clubs have also been granted a further £16,500. The Tidy Magpie Club based at Ashdown Leisure Centre will expand to accommodate 26 new places for the after school & holiday play scheme. This will extend their scheme to accommodate more children aged 4-14 years.
The grant will also provide the necessary start up funding for a new club to be held at Stanley Green First School which will provide 26 places for children 4-10 for both after school and holiday club.
It is hoped that with the help of the Early Years Team based at Westover House in Poole a further 600 new places will be created to allow parents to access good quality, affordable provision in every area of the Borough. Schools within the Borough have been offered support and several schools are in the process of planning new clubs with the help of the Out of School Club Development Worker.
