Have You Sent Your Register of Electors Form Back?

Over 11,000 households in Poole have still not returned a completed Register of Electors Form despite having been sent 2 reminders!

Despite using the new initiatives of telephone and on-line registration the number of returned forms are substantially down from previous years which is causing concern to the Government.

The recent Electoral Administration Act 2006 link will open in new window places a legal requirement on Electoral Registration Officers to arrange for personal visits to be made to those properties where a completed form has not been received. Accordingly, a large team of canvassers have now been appointed and will be visiting properties over the next two weeks throughout the Borough of Poole.

Paul Morris, Electoral Registration Officer said: "It is a legal requirement to complete the Register of Electors Form and failure to do so can result in prosecution and the risk of a £1,000 fine."

He added: "Apart from the risk of prosecution if your name is not include in the Register you will experience difficulties in obtaining credit and will be unable to vote in the Borough Council Elections which will be held on 3 May 2007."

Householders who are concerned that they might not have responded should contact Electoral Services straight away on Tel 01202 633061 or e-mail electoral.services@poole.gov.uk
