The Borough of Poole is currently undertaking a series of public consultations as part of a programme that looks at the work and services that it provides.
The Council currently spends the sum of £738,420 a year on providing a service for the Arts. The vast part of this sum is spent on the services provided through the site known as Poole Arts Centre. The Council whishes to focus a review on the provision of services through this site and welcomes the views of residents and users of these services.
Poole Arts Trust leases and operates the Arts Centre building from the Borough Of Poole. It provides and presents a broad range of performances, exhibitions, educational, community and participatory events. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is situated in leased premises at the rear of the Arts Centre. The Orchestra provides a wide range of classical, orchestral and ensemble music together with educational work in the community. An Arts Development Officer is currently based in the Arts Centre and works in partnership with a range of Council Service Units and other organisations to provide a programme of community-based artist residences, research and consultation into local arts needs and interests, advice and information on arts-related matters.
The Council is holding a public meeting to which residents of Poole and users of the Arts Service are invited to attend and make their views know. The meeting will be held in the Dorset Room at Poole Arts Centre at 7.00pm on 13th March 2000.
