EASTER ACTIVITIES

Poole Museum Service is arranging an exciting activity programme this coming Easter for both Adults and Children. In addition to the Childrens’ activities there will be 2 special events for Adults relating to historical cooking and the preparation of food. All of the activities will take place in Scaplen’s Court Museum.

Activities for Children 10-30am till 12-30pm

Tuesday 18th April 2000 -- "EGGSTAVAGANZA"

What can we do with an egg? Naomi will show the children a number of exciting things such as decorating them, cooking them and making chocolate nests for them. It will then be their turn to do these and other things with the humble egg.

Thursday 20th April 2000 -- EASTER CRAFTS AND STORIES

A mixed activity event. The children will work with Michelle creating an Easter Card containing their own poem. By storytelling, Michelle will lead them in creative ways to design and make their very own Easter greetings card.

Tuesday 25th April 2000 --- REVOLUTIONARY RECIPES

To-day in 1792 an execution took place in Paris using for the first time the infamous Guillotine. The activity today lead by Naomi could have been influenced by this event. Using the kitchen cooking range, children will with Naomi’s help cook tri-coloured biscuits and other food from those revolutionary times in France.

Thursday 27th April 2000 --- DIGGING UP THE PAST

What is it like to be an archaeologist and discover things about our past? Join our activity leader and be part of a team finding out how to discover buried objects and how an archaeologist records what they find.

These activities are suitable for children from 5 to 10 years. Tickets cost £2-75 per child for each activity.

Activities for Adults 10-00am till 1-00pm

Saturday, 22nd April 2000 --- THE SAXONS AND NORMANS

Return to life at the commencement of the last millennium, the time of the Norman invasion of England to prepare food as our forefathers did. Light the fire with flint and steel and then prepare the food. Food such as manchet, choot and trencher bread. Follow this with a delicious recipe for bagge pudding followed by elder flower fritters and herb pancakes made with ale batter.

Saturday, 29th April 2000 --- THE CRUSADERS

Once again back to the period of the first and second Crusades, 1096 to 1149 to explore recipes of this period. Plan a meal for the imminent visit of a very important visitor. Find out how to make gingered bread gilded with real gold and three coloured soup. Then follow this with apple prune and white bean pies. One important lesson to be learnt is the real purpose of saucers and what they should be filled with.

Tickets £5-00 per activity, participants will be expected to provide various ingredients.
