14 Mar 00MORE HAMWORTHY BUS SERVICES
Following a meeting between Hamworthy Ward Councillors and Wilts & Dorset Bus Company, additional bus services will be provided between lower Hamworthy and Poole, while the lifting bridge is closed for maintenance between 13th March and 9th April 2000.
A temporary timetable had been agreed for the four week closure, however there were only a few journeys operating to and from lower Hamworthy. Local Councillors were concerned that some residents would be cut-off without a bus service.
In response to a plea from Ward Councillors, Wilts & Dorset have agreed to operate at no extra charge, additional Monday to Friday journeys from Poole Bus Station to the Potter’s Arms at 0950 and 1350. There will also be journeys returning from the Potter’s Arms at 1015 and 1415.
Chairman of the Borough’s Transportation Sub-Committee, Councillor Lou Knight, said: "I am pleased that Wilts & Dorset have been able to listen to the local residents and provide these extra journeys. This is clear evidence that the bus company is willing to work in partnership with the Council for the benefit of the travelling public."
Wilts & Dorset District Manager (South), Andrew Jarvis, said "Following consideration of the excellent suggestion by local Councillors, we are delighted to be able to fit in some extra journeys from Lower Hamworthy. Since agreeing the Quality Bus Partnership we have been committed to working closely with the Borough of Poole to improve bus services in the area. This has already resulted in the introduction of 55 low floor buses at a cost of £4million by ourselves and the provision of 35 new bus shelters and over 50 raised kerbs by the Council."
