Heroes in the Community

The Borough of Poole is on the hunt for Community Champions – unsung heroes who make a big difference to the lives of family, friends and neighbours by going that extra mile to improve their quality of life or benefit their town.

Whether they are shopping for the elderly, driving a minibus or organising a litter pick, these community-minded groups and individuals deserve recognition for making the town an extra special place to live, work and play.

Councillor Ann Stribley, deputy council leader and who launched the awards scheme, said: “There are many people out there working tirelessly in their own way, often without recognition or reward, to benefit others. In many cases they are not doing anything huge but in their own way, whether it be through running errands for neighbours, voluntarily running a club or organising community events, they are making a difference to other people’s lives. We want to celebrate their commitment as good citizens and give them the recognition they duly deserve.”

The award scheme sets three levels of achievement – blue, silver and gold, designed to encourage people to continue with their good work.

Nominations should be sent to the Council setting out reasons why that person or group deserves to be a Community Champion. Successful candidates will be presented with a unique lapel badge and certificate.

Anyone can nominate at any time an individual or group they feel has contributed to Poole or to the local community. Nomination forms are available from Democratic Services at the Borough of Poole tel no: 01202 633036 or 633019 and on the website at www.boroughofpoole.com/applyforit. Completed forms should be returned to Head of Democratic Services, Civic Centre, Poole BH15 2RU
