Social Services Charter Mark Hat Trick

Borough of Poole Social Services being awarded the Charter Mark for Customer Service Excellence

The Borough of Poole's Social Services has been awarded the Charter Mark for the third time following a two-stage assessment process.

Charter Mark is a national standard for Customer Service Excellence. It challenges organisations to set up and publish standards and be accountable for them. The award also encourages innovation and service development to offer choice and flexibility to users and to take account of their views and opinions.

Cllr Elaine Atkinson, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Community Support, Borough of Poole, said: "This accreditation which we have achieved for the third time is a reflection of the quality of service provided to people in Poole, making a real difference to people's lives. It means Poole receives national recognition for the good work it's doing and for staff to be acknowledged for their highly professional work in meeting the needs and aspirations of service users and carers."

Among the examples of good practice highlighted by assessors were:

  • A home carer who offered a head massage with hair washing \n
  • Day centre staff who asked to be trained in hearing aid maintenance to save service users making separate visits to audio clinics \n
  • A care manager who despite the extra work would put together complex care packages within 24 hours to enable people who wished to leave hospital to die in their own homes

Part of the Charter Mark process is to support the process of continually improving services and an Action Plan based on the recommendations for further improvements will be developed.
