The library, which serves homes in Merley and Bearwood every fortnight and Wallisdown on a weekly basis, had been under threat after Bournemouth which contributes towards the Wallisdown service in an agreement with Poole, highlighted it as a possible way of making cost savings.

However a last minute deal has been reached between the two authorities. In the meantime the Borough of Poole is investigating the best financial option for obtaining a new mobile library service vehicle.

Cllr Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Learning, Borough of Poole, said:

"It is with some relief that I hear Bournemouth Council has been able to maintain its partnership with Poole and that we can go ahead and continue with the replacement of the mobile library vehicle this year."
