Parliament To Debate Fair Deal For Poole

Borough of Poole’s campaign to secure fairer funding for council services from the Government is to be discussed by politicians in Parliament.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Brian Leverett and Cllr Ann Stribley, Deputy Leader of the Council and Leader of the Council’s Conservative Group, are travelling to Westminster to listen to the debate.

Poole is the fourth worst-funded Unitary Authority in the country and Councillors are calling on residents to play an active role and support the cross-party campaign.

More than 6,000 people have declared their support for the “Fair Deal” campaign by signing the Council’s petition, letter or internet ‘e-petition’ link will open in new window.

Cllr Leverett said: “We are very pleased Robert Syms MP is taking this opportunity to raise this important matter in the House of Commons. This is an important step in our campaign to secure fair funding for Poole.”

Cllr Ann Stribley, Deputy Leader of the Council and Leader of the Council’s Conservative Group said: “This year’s 1.7 per cent Government settlement is extremely disappointing and I am delighted that Robert Syms MP has got this adjournment debate and I only hope the Government begins to listen.”
