A Day to Remember

Anniversaries…Celebrations…Commemorations

This year the Queen celebrates her Golden Jubilee and the Waterfront Museum is holding a special exhibition about how we celebrate and commemorate all sorts of memorable days and events in our lives.

Amongst the many exhibits on display will be a large selection of items that celebrate royalty. These include an eye-catching patchwork quilt, carefully sewn together to celebrate Queen Victoria’s jubilee and lots of souvenirs relating to other royal events, including the coronation of Queen Elizabeth.

The exhibition will also display material connected with more personal events and memories, including stunning wedding dresses, christening gowns and mementoes of unforgettable days such as England winning the World Cup and man’s first step on the moon.

There will be lots of activities relating to the displays including the opportunity to dress up like a King or Queen, make sparkling crowns and find out exactly why we put silver bells, shoes and doves on wedding cakes.
